Postcards from Pena Palace | Lisbon

Travel

Some tips for visiting Pena Palace from Lisbon:

  • The train from Lisbon is super cheap, around €5 for a return ticket. Trains run twice an hour, they get pretty busy so get there early to avoid standing for 45 minutes
  • When you arrive in Sintra, there are quite a few options for what to do, if you just want to visit Pena Palace then get a taxi
  • There are two different tour buses which are €20 each and offer a hop on hop off service
  • I recommend just getting a taxi as it works out cheaper because Pena Palace might take you the whole day
  • The palace is €7 to get into the gardens or €15 to get into the palace and gardens
  • The busiest time is the mornings, the queue to go around the inside of the palace is long in the morning
  • If you only want to take pictures of the outside then just buy a ticket for the grounds
  • If you pay to go inside the palace, no photos are allowed, if you go in the morning it is very over crowded
After lunchtime the crowds ease up
It is very easy to spend the whole day here wondering around

A Spa Break with Bannatynes {gifted}

Travel

At the beginning of the week I had pleasure of venturing down to Hastings, East Sussex for an overnight spa break which was very kindly gifted by Bannatynes.
I decided to take one of my best friends as we had not been on holiday together in a really long time.

When we arrived at the hotel, it was pretty much everything I was expecting. A big country style house set in the middle huge green grounds, it truly felt like we were on holiday.

The spa is located a short 2 minute walk down the driveway, which we headed to straight away after we had checked in and seen our room. The room was extremely spacious and clean and had really quirky features. The highlight for me was the big bath room and bath tub!

In the spa we were given a little tour of the facilities and were made to feel really welcome. We headed straight to the Jacuzzi as it was empty as I wanted to get some photos in there before it got busy, so we timed it perfectly.

After being outside for a while we decided to try out the steam room and the indoor Jacuzzi before heading back to the room to get ready for dinner that evening.

Before dinner we headed back down to the gardens out the back of the hotel to take some photos, and ordered a cocktail from the bar for some more photos.

The gifted experience included a two course meal, as a really fussy eater I was a little bit concerned about not liking enough of the food, but I can safely say I liked it all. For started I had the watercress soup, followed by chicken in gravy with potatoes and cabbage.

On the second day we woke up nice and early to the sun streaming into our room making it feel like a sauna. We headed down to breakfast, it was buffet style with everything you could of wanted along with made to order specials.

Before driving to Hastings beach we had our treatments in the spa, we both chose to have facials. This was my first facial so I was a little bit anxious about having it as I was just thinking of all the horrible things the person would say about my skin. However, this was not the case. The lady who did the facial was really nice, and I just laid back and relaxed.

Thank you to Bannatynes for giving us this amazing opportunity and allowing us to come and stay!

Why I’m ditching foundation |Foundation free make up routine

Beauty

Today’s post is a little bit of a different one, we’re talking about my skin, since I ever started wearing make up back in high school I have always worn foundation, powder and mascara. They were my first ever products I wore, I of course wear loads more now and look a lot more put together. I always felt like I needed to over my skin, my skin has good days and bad days, like everyone’s.

When I was on holiday last week I was tanning, and because I wear sunscreen on my face my face wasn’t matching the rest of my body, this meant it was then having to mix in darkening drops into my foundation in order to match.

Wearing foundation on holiday is just effort, normally it’s so hot you just feel like a melted mess, and why cover up just for a couple of hours in the evening, why not jus the foundation free the whole day.

I am only 6 days into not wearing any foundation, but I have noticed a huge difference in my skin. I am still getting spots, but parts of my face look a lot clearer and the texture looks so much better!

Saying “don’t wear foundation” is easier said than done, you still feel naked with a bare face, that’s where the Isle Of Paradise Tanning Drops come into play. In the evenings I like to mix these with my moisturiser and when I wake up I have a really natural looking tan, there for taking away the main reason I was wearing foundation. I find the drops even put my skin tone and do cover up a lot of old scaring making me more confident.

So now onto the make up I have been wearing and loving for the past week!

I begin with priming my skin because I still want my make up to last a long time and also a lot of primers are smoothing and make your skin look great like this one from Dermalogica.

I still want to add a bit of colour and shape to my face so I use a cream contour stick on my cheeks and on my forehead to add some depth. I love the medium/dark cream contour from Tanya Burr Cosmetics and the Illamasqua Gel Sculpt.

Now onto my favourite discovery, the Arkana I-Tech Glow loose powder, I apply this all over my face to set the the cream bronzer and to create a matte finish. This powder is however not completely matte, it really reminds me of the Hourglass Mineral Veil, it has a slight shimmer to it which gives your face a really natural glow.

I have then been loving using the Sephora bronzer in the shade Caledonia, in the winter this is way to orange for me, but with a tan it works perfectly!

Next up I use a blush, the one I have been using recently is Nars Orgasm as it adds a pop or colour and a glow.

I then finish my face with a sweep of the Pixi Glow on my cheek bones.

I have been keeping my brows pretty natural for a while now and just using L’Oréal Brow Plumper to add a little texture and to keep them in place.

Finally for the eyes I have been using the L’Oréal Volume Million Lashes, this creates really long thick lashes! Lastly I use this gorgeous palette from Memi which has the prettiest warm shades in it perfect for the summer!

Let me know how you feel about not wearing foundation.

A postcard from Fuerteventura

Travel

Hello from sunny Fuerteventura, I’m currently half way through my holiday and thought I would get a blogpost up featuring some of my photos from my beach walk to other day.

I am actually obsessed with all the photos I have taken whilst being here, the scenery is just amazing, and around the hotel there is loads of instagramable hot spots perfect for capturing some outfit shots.

I am staying at the TUI Sensimar Royal Palm & Spa hotel, the hotel it’s self is beautiful like I said, the perfect Instagram hotel, palm trees everywhere, grey and white walls and amazing food!

The wind how ever is a little bit too strong, this means that even though it is really sunny it doesn’t feel hot. For me me this is the perfect weather because it means I never get too hot that I have to go inside, instead I can sit outside all day and work on my tan.

If you want to see more pics be sure to head over to Instagram and follow me @toriiitoriii and @toriiitravels

See you soon xx

A Postcard from Positano

Travel

When I booked my holiday to Naples I had no idea that going to visit Positano would even be possible, that being said it was a little bit out the way but well worth the visit! The photos I got here were some of my favourites from the whole trip!

Positano is such a pretty place and much like what you see plastered all over Instagram.

We arrived early afternoon, we were dropped off at the top of the hill by a bus and started the walk down. We had no idea where we were actually going but decided to just wing it and see where we ended up. Walking down the little alley ways was rather painful and in my mind I was dreading the walk back up at the end of the day.

When we made it down to the beach, we headed straight for food which consisted of pizza followed by ice cream. Then the photo taking commences and continued until we left.

It is such a quaint little town, I can’t imagine how busy it gets in the summer, it must be absolutely packed full of tourists!

Positano is such a photogenic place regardless of the weather.

There is not a lot to do there unless you literally just want to lay on the rocky beach all day and eat ice cream (which doesn’t sound half bad), so we decided to we would get a boat round to Sorrento so we got to tick another place off the list. Also this meant I didn’t have to walk back up all those stairs which was a result.

A magical day in Disney Land Paris

Beauty

Every year for my birthday my best friend and I like to take a little trip, this year’s trip was to Paris and more importantly Disney Land! I had not been to Paris in about 7 and the last time I had been to Disney was in LA in 2011 so it was a long awaited trip!

We flew out to Paris on Friday night straight after work and headed to the hotel which was one stop away from Disney. The next morning we headed to park, much to my disappointment the weather was horrible! I was really looking forward to being about to get amazing photos of the castle with a lovely blue sky, but no, we could barely see the castle when we arrived!

That being said, the photos did look pretty awesome with the castle faded in the background.

Our first ride was Space Mountain, somehow we ended up with the front seats, I was very glad that this ride was mainly in the dark so I couldn’t see! We actually only ended up going on 5 rides which doesn’t seem like a lot but when each queue is roughly an hour it makes sense. Even though it was a weekend in January the park was still so busy!

We went on Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Buzz Lightyear, Tea Cups and Rockin Rollercoaster.

Jumper: Primark Leggings: New Look Hat: Primark

At 5pm the parade down Main Street commenced and it was so magical! I don’t think it matters how old you are, but you just can’t hell get emotional when you hear all the Disney songs and see all the character dancing along.

After the parade we quickly headed to the second park, the studios. We only spent about an hour in this park as we had to queue for the Aerosmith ride, so by the time we finished that ride it was too late to queue for another.

At 7pm we left the park and went to find some dinner, we initially tried to go to Planet Hollywood to eat but the queue was nearly 49 minutes! Instead, we went opposite to a Annette’s Diner which only had a short queue.

After dinner we headed back to the main park ready to watch the fireworks at 9pm.

This was another magical part of the day, the atmosphere is amazing, the effects are brilliant and it’s just an amazing experience that can’t be missed!

So there you have it, 12 hours in Disney Land Paris!

Some tips:

  • Dress for the weather! I did not dress appropriately for January and froze the whole day! Standing in queue is a cold process and you will not warm up!
  • Take snacks for the queues.
  • Print your tickets as soon as you book them!
  • Plan what you want to do/where to go

What’s in the box? Cohorted December Box

Beauty

Hello and welcome back to day 16 of blogmas and December! Less than 10 days now until the big day! Today’s blogpost is a review of the Cohorted December box which was kindly gifted to me!

The Cohorted Box always looks so sleek and stylish and it’s such a treat to see what’s inside! I feel like this box could never disappoint, especially considering the box is worth 3 times as much as what you pay for it!

Cargo Emerald City Palette £35

This is the first palette I’ve seen from Cargo, my first impressions are how festive it is! The green is such a beautiful colour, although these really aren’t my shades which makes me really sad! But the names of each shadow is perfect, it made me super happy and nostalgic when I realised they are names after places in Seattle which is one of my favourite cities!

Tarte Tartiest Glossy Lip Paint £21

When I saw this in the box I screamed a little bit with happiness, I have wanted to try anything from Tate for the longest time! This is in the shade Obvi and it’s a really nice warmed toned peachy nude! I love wearing a nude lip for work so this will be perfect!

Eyeko Liquid Liner

This is a really cute compact black liquid eye liner from Eyeko which is a fairly expensive brand so it’s nice to be able to try out a smaller size before buying a full-size. I love the idea and the look of winged liner but I cannot do it for the life of me! I want to be able to, but I just cannot do it! So I probably won’t get much use out of this, although I will have a practice!

Becca Cosmetics Shadow & Light Brow Contour Mousse £18

Initially when I saw this little pot I thought it was an eye shadow, but no, it’s eye brow mousse! I have been using this non stop since receiving the box and am obsessed with it! This definitely has to be the star of the box! It creates really precise strokes and it’s really easy to build up or have really natural brows! Definitely my favourite product of the box and I will get so much use out of it!

What do you think of this box?

What to do between Christmas and New Year

Beauty

This is the question I’m sure everyone asks and is thinking about, I work in a school so I have the whole of the festive period off, but this means I need to make the most of it and do something every day. But of course, the 4 and a bit days between Christmas ending and NYE we all need some motivation to get up and go somewhere instead of lounging around eating chocolate and left over food whilst watching more Christmas movies. I have come up with some ideas (mainly for myself to look back on and do) of what do on those days where your going stir crazy sat in front of he tv for yet another day.

Go for a walk

Nothing beats going for a wintery walk!

Movie day

Invite your friends around, watch some movies, eat some chocolate and mince pies!

Sale Shopping

If you feel like your ready to battle the sales, then heading into the shops is good idea to get some real bargains!

Visit your closest city

Heading into your nearest city for the final Christmassy vibes before the January blues!

Have a pamper day

Pamper days are my answer for everything, enjoy an afternoon pampering yourself, do a face mask, run a bath and just relax.

Plan your 2018

Plan what you want to do/achieve and where you want to go!

Go ice skating

There are some really gorgeous ice skating rinks around these days, especially in London at the Natural History Museum and Tower of London!

Clean & Sort

Having some free time before the end of the year is a great time to declutter and tidy all your belongings!

Go on a trip

Go for a night away anywhere and explore!

Bake

Find some really yummy things to bake in a cooking book or on Pinterest!

Hope these have given you some ideas of what to do, I will definitely be doing most of these while I’m off work!

15 things to do this December

Beauty

Today’s blogpost is all about giving you some ideas of what to do this month and a list for me to try and tick of as and when I do them. I’m hoping I can do all of these things this month and hope you can too!

  1. Go to a Christmas Tree Farm and pick your tree I did this last year and it wasn’t exactly what I expected, I thought it would be like in the movies, where you pick your tree and chop it. But I still managed to find a cute little patch of untouched Christmas trees to get some photos with.
  2. Decorate your tree This obviously goes without saying!
  3. Attend a Christmas party (or two) I have two Christmas parties to go to this year which I am super excited about!
  4. Rock a red lip If your anything like me then you’ll be in a red lip near enough anytime you leave the house, there is no other time of year when a red lip is acceptable for even a trip to Asda!
  5. Eat your weight in Camembert I think I discovered this amazing cheese last year and I got a little obsessed with it. I love dipping in French Stick and peppers!
  6. Drink your weight in hot chocolate covered in marshmallows and whipped cream Another obvious one, there are so many different flavours of hot chocolate out there now, you could even try a new one daily!
  7. Take a walk Blow the cobwebs away, this one is a great one to do inbetween Christmas and New Year to get you out of the house and walking off your Christmas dinner.
  8. Go to a Christmas market This is the one I am most likely to not be able to tick off as there is no local market near to me. But Christmas markets are super fun, even if you don’t buy anything they are still super festive and cute!
  9. Spend a day watching Christmas movies Have a day where you do nothing but watch movies and ofcourse eat Christmasy treats! The Christmas channel is my go to for the whole of December as there is always a sweet festive movie on.
  10. Make cookies There is nothing more cosy than baking in your kitchen and the smell radiating throughout the house of freshly baked cookies.
  11. Plan a Christmas party This year I took it upon myself to plan a Christmas meal for my department at work, it’s been so much fun planning and organising.
  12. Create a Christmas Eve snuggle box This is pretty much a box full of essentials for the night, from cosy pjs and socks to candles and face masks!
  13. Spend a Sunday morning in bed with a Ginger Bread Latte reading a book Ginger Bread Lattes are my obsession from November onwards so drinking one of them in bed reading Tanya’s Christmas is a great way of getting in the spirit.
  14. Wrap your presents with Christmas music on as loud as it can go This goes without saying, surely?
  15. Head to Starbucks (or Costa) for a festive drink I am a little obsessed with gingerbread lattes and pumpkin spice so any chance I have I will be drinking one.

What’s in your list of things to do this festive season? Let me know in the comments and be sure to follow me on Instagram so you don’t miss out @toriiitoriii

What’s in my handbag for the airport

Beauty

Tomorrow I am jetting of the Geneva, Switzerland so I thought I would share what I am taking for the airport in my handbag. This pretty much just includes all the essentials I need to the flight and either side of the flights.

My bad is from Primark and was only £7, I really liked the fact it’s simple and pretty plain apart from the gold beetles on the circle.

So here is an overview of what is going to fit into my bag, this bag is fairly small so I think I will actually end up keeping my money, passport and phone in my jacket pocket to free up some space.

Firstly I have my passport which is on this super cute holder from Amazon, I love how summery and cute it is! It also stops my passport from getting damaged when it’s going in and out of bags.

Next up is some chewing gum from Peppersmith, but not just any chewing gum, this is dental gum! This means that it actually cleans your teeth! This is perfect for when your travel and don’t have access to a tooth brush for over 16 hours.

Ofcourse I need to pack my Elizabeth Arden Eugt Hour cream as I cannot live without this!

I have also decided to pack my IPod, although I do need to download some new music onto it as it’s all a little out of date now.

And then we have my purse, this one from Victoria’s Secret is my travel purse as it’s quite small but can fit a lot in.

Snacks! Snacks are essential because you never know how long your going to be stuck on a flight for, I learnt my lesson after being stuck on a Thomsons flight for 10 hours when the actual flight time was 4 hours!

A hair brush, this is the smallest hair brush I own so it’s the only one that will fit in my bag. It’s not great, but it will do the job as I imagine I’ll be wearing a hat both days anyway.

And finally my phone charger case, I literally could not live without this, this has saved me so many times!

What do you take in your bag for the airport?

My brow routine & mini review of Tanya Burr Cosmetics Selfie Sculpt brow pencil

Beauty

Hello!

Today I am sharing my current brow routine which features one new product which I have fallen in love with since receiving it and the other is just an all time favourite!

I only use two products for brows and I love them! The first product is from Tanya Burr Cosmetics and is the new Brow Selfie Sculpt. I have only been using this 3 days and I am obsessed! It is a retractable pencil on one end and the other has a spooley brush. The pencil is angled which makes it really sturdy so it doesn’t break and really easy to use. The product glides on really easy with the lightest touch which I love because its so easy to control and not go over the top. This brow pencil was sent to me by the brand and they sent me the shade medium, if I was to pick this up myself I most likely would have gone for the fair shade. Buy, you know what, I’m really digging my brows being darker and more prominent.

Using the pencil I start in the centre of my brow and work my way down the tail, once I have the shape there i then go to the front of my brow and fill it in more lightly using upwards motions to create the look of natural brow hairs. While I’m doing this I constantly brush out my brows using the spooley end, this is so handy having it there rather than having to swap and change what your holding. I also find the brush really soft but effective, a lot of spooley brushes I’ve owned are quite rough and scratchy.

Once I have my brows looking full and even I then to set them using a brow mascara, my go-to is Loreal Brow Plumper. I have tried many, but this is the only one which actually sets them and stops them moving around throughout the day.

I also like to add a sweeping of highlight on my brow bone to add a little bit more shape and dimensions.

So there’s my brow routine, what products to you use on a daily basis?

11 things to do this autumn

Beauty

I love autumn, and I love winter, and I’m pretty sure I said I loved summer and spring at some point. But realistically I think I am more of an autumn winter kinda girl, summer was great when I used to spend it in California, but being in the UK kinda sucks so I’ve come to conclusion I cannot say I love summer the best. So here are 19 wonderful ideas to do this autumn, this is pretty much my to do list aswell so I can actually accomplish something and be productive and not just sit around doing nothing watching the leaves drop of the trees.

1. Go on autumnal walks There is nothing better than getting a bit of fresh air, so why not head out of your cosy warm house into the brisk autumnal air trapping though piles of leaves and enjoying the fall colours.

2. Get Baking Whether or not your a GBO fantatic baking doesn’t have to be hard, I recently came across pre made cookie dough in my local Asda. It’s so easy to use, just slice it and place it on a tray in the oven to get delicious smelling cookies (and house).

3. Go shopping I love seeing a new season in with a few new items in my wardrobe, it’s just makes planning outfits that little bit more fun. This year I have been loving Primark for all their knitwear and bobble hats!

4. Have (many) cosy nights in watching movies This one kind of explains itself. I will be doing a blogpost about my favourite shows to watch on a cosy day in next week.

5. Have a full on pamper session I have just put up a post earlier this week about my autumnal pamper picks so be sure to head over and check that out.

6. Drink a pumpkin spice latte (obvious I know) I was so late to the game this year, I didn’t get my PSL until the 30th September so I feel like I’ve missed out on it loads! But I’m sure I will be buying lots more before they go!

7. Add some cosyness to your room Fairy lights and candles add a real cosy feeling to your room, even having them on and burning on a full autumn day makes it feel so much nicer.

8. Buy a pumpkin and carve it (or just take photos with it) My dream is to go to a pumpkin patch and actually pick my own pumpkin but I can’t find anywhere near me, so buying one from a shop is the next closest thing!

9. Switch up your make up for autumn Nothing says autumn like a berry or dark lip!

10. Decorate your room for fall I am stocking up on pumpkins, they just make the cutest decoration to sit on top of dresses and they look really cute in photos!

11. Start a new show Autumn & winter are great times to get interested in a new tv show and binge watch on cold miserable days!

What’s in your to do list this autumn? Give me some ideas 🙂
