What’s in my travel makeup bag | ft The Flat Lay Co {gifted}

Beauty

Todays post is all about the make up I am taking with me to Genoa, featuring the beautiful Flat Lay Co makeup bag*. This was sent to me a little while ago and I have been waiting patiently to be able to use it, and I figured this short trip would be perfect. I was a bit sceptical about whether all my make up would fit, but it actually did. This is my second Flat Lay Co bag, they are so handy when it comes to travelling as it’s so easy to lay all your make up out and not worry about getting it on the white hotel bed sheets.

You can check out their website here or on Asos.

I decided for this trip that I would try and pack light and only take what I am going to use, so I think I have in the main part done so.

I have picked the Dermalogica Primer* as this is my favourite primer that own right now, it is very similar to Benefit Porefessional, but contains SPF making it perfect for holidays.

As for foundation I decided to stick with Mac Studio Fix as I know this lasts a long time and also contains SPF making it ideal for sunny weather. A newer concealer I am taking is from Thin Lizzy*, this was sent to me a while back and I was obsessed with thier foudnation, so I’m hoping I will feel the same about the concealer. This concealer is also good for under the eyes and on areas which need more coverage.

The cream bronzer I am packing is from Primark, it was only £2.50 and I needed a new one as I had run out of my favourite one. Although this one is a little bit too dark for me on a daily basis, I’m hoping that once I’ve tanned it will match my body pretty well.

To set my face I will be using the MUA Cosmetics loose powder in translucent, I use this on a daily basis and keeps my face looking pretty matte all day long. To bronze I will be using Hoola Bronzer from Benefit as this is my go to holiday bronzer as it’s on the more intense darker side.

To add some colour to my cheeks I have packed the Zoella x Colourpop brush as this is a really pretty pink shade. And then to finish off my face make up I have chosen Glossier Haloscope in Quartz as my highlighter as this gives a lovely dewy finish.

For mascara I have chosen to take the Natural Collection waterproof mascara, I chose to go with a waterproof one just so it will last longer in the heat and not sweat off. For my eye shadow I have opted for the Urban Decay Aphrodisiac palette and a Zoella x Colourpop liquid shadow in OG.

To define my brows I have packed my new eye brow hd pencil from Sainsbury’s which I am pretty obsessed with, and Loreal Brow Plumper to set them in place.

Finally, for my lips I have packed YSL 201, MAC Viva Glam 2 and MAC Fashion Legacy as I like to go for a very bold bright lip on holiday.

Summer Lovin’ Makeup Routine

Beauty

This summer I have really tried to stay away from heavy make up, I recently wrote a post on why I’m ditching foundation, but the reality is, that I only ditch foundation when I’m 100% happy with how my skin is looking, as soon as I have an spot or three my foundation makes it way back into my makeup up. So here is my current go to make up look for summer…

In the summer especially I was really gooey natural looking skin, the primer I have found that is perfect for this is the Figs & Rouge Light Reflefting Brightening Primer & Illuminator. This is a very golden primer which makes your skin glow like a disco ball instantly. I like to follow that with my trusty Mac Studio Fix Foundation. I only apply a tiny amount and blend it over my face just to even out my skin tone, I don’t go on thick and heavy and cake it on, because I know that does not work for my skin nor does it look good! If I have a tan and my foundation doesn’t match, then I apply some darkening drops from The Body Shop.

For concealer I like to use Rimmel Wake Me Up, this is such a light weight concealer, I find this is the only one that doesn’t crease under my eyes.

Before I set my face with the Arkana I-Tech glow powder, I like to use a cream contour stick either from Tanya Burr Cosmetics or Illamasqua.

For powder bronzer I have been loving the Sephora bronzer in the shade Caledonia, I find this is the perfect shade for the summer when my skin is more tanned and warmer.

I have had the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette for over 2 years and I always forget to use because I keep it stored in my acrylic drawers so it doesn’t get ruined, but that’s meant I’ve forgotten about it loads! So I’ve decided to keep it out and try and use it as much as I can, I love the blush shade Luminous Flush and the highlight shade Iridescent Light. They both create a really glowy natural look which looks perfect for the summer.

The mascara I have been obsessed with is the L’Oréal Volume Million Lashes, this creates lots of length and volume and gives your lashes a natural curl.

On my brows I have been using the L’Oréal Brow Plumper, I recently decided to go a shade darker and use brown instead of blonde as I had it in my collection anyway and I love the way my brows look after using it!

I think most people will say Urban Decay Naked Heat is their chosen palette for the summer, it sure is mine! I am just obsessed with the warm shades!

And lastly a bright bold lip from Too Faced in the shade Melted Coral.

My All Time Favourite Foundations

Beauty

Finding a foundation which works well for your skin, lasts a long time and doesn’t cost a bomb can take time and a lot of effort experimenting with different brands in order to find your one true love. After many years of buying a multitude on foundations and testing them out I can finally say I have found my two favourites…

MAC Studio Fix

MAC Studio Fix Foundation  has been in my collection for just over a year now, I have no idea what I did before it because this has been a game changer. I always used to think that the likes of Loreal and Rimmel were just as good so I was reluctant to pay nearly £25 for a bottle of foundation which wouldn’t last that long. I eventually caved and bought my first bottle as a treat to myself, and love and behold I fell in love with it!

It blends really well into your skin, it gives great coverage, it doesn’t look cakey and it last for pretty long time! What else could you want from a foundation? I am now on my second bottle (the first bottle I bought was more of a summer skin shade so I went a shade lighter for the winter months). This foundation is my special occasion foundation, whenever I’m going out and need my base to look good and last for a long time.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation is my dupe for Mac Studio Fix, it works in exactly the same way, but is less than half the price! I was lucky enough to receive this from Influenster to try out, this foundation necessarily wouldn’t have been one I would have picked up myself but I am so glad I got to try it out! I find this one more hydrating on my skin and gives a much fresher glowy base. Coverage wise I would say they are both fairly similar along with the longevity of the formula.

This is my every day foundation, of course I was reluctant to test it out for a whole day at work, but it worked great for my skin!

Even though I have found the two foundations that work for me, I still have quite a few in my collection which I can’t seem to throw away (just yet). I think it is still good to experiment with different foundations on days where you can deal with a make up disaster as your skin might have changed and a little switch up could be good for it.

What are you go to foundations?

Forgotten beauty bits…

Beauty

I have recently just shuffled my room around (again) and had a little tidy and sort through ALL my make up, I find this so satisfying and relaxing especially when you find products that you’ve forgotten about (much like clothes in my wardrobe).
So here are some beauty bits I’ve pulled aside from the main bulk of my collection and kept in acrylic drawers next to my bed so I can’t forget about them…

I keep all my everyday essesntials in my make up bag, everything I use for work mainly, then if I want a different look that day thats when I’ll head over to my large acrylic drawers where the main bulk of my collection is kept. I have had a look through then and picked out some products which have not had a lot of love recently and need to be used.

Drawer 1

Loreal Infalliable foundation was my absolute favourite until I discovered MAC Studio Sculpt, pretty much all the foundations I own have taken a back seat since I discovered MAC. This foundation is very full coverage and that is not something that I desire anymore, I have accepted the fact I get spots and that sometimes trying to hide them looks a lot worse! ALthough, I love using Pixi Glow Booster with heavier coverage foundations to make them a bit more sheer and glowy so these two together would work a treat! Deffo a combo to try out!

Next I have pretty expensive primer from Figs & Rouge, don’t worry I didn’t buy this one, it was sent to me in a Cohorted Subscription Box. This primer is for brightening skin and illuminating the base, when you apply it you look like Edward Cullen, all shimmery.

Bourjois concealers are my favourite, the only reason I haven’t been reaching for this one is because I have been loving the Healthy Mix concealer as I find it a little lighter and more brightening.

As for lip products, I have been neglecting everyone of them apart from a select few. So I have picked out a few nude shades which I can start wearing on an everyday basis, as I work mainly in the PE department I tend to lean more towards lipbalm rather than colour. I have picked Tanya Burr Cosmetics in Pink Cocoa, Tarte Tartiest Glossy Lip Paint in Obvi and Barry M Matte Me Up in Pose.

Drawer 2

This drawer is basically full of highlighters, can you guess which highlighter I have been using a daily basis instead of these?… Glossier Haloscope, if you have seen, heard of or tried this highlighter then you must, it’s been a real game changer. I have picked out three highlighters which used to be my favourites and I guess in some way they still are when I want an extra glow. First up is Peonies Please by Tanya Burr Cosmetics, this is a really subtle pink glow which can be used as a blush or on your cheek bones to add a warm girly look to your makeup. Next is another pinky shade, Soft & Gentle from MAC, literally just swatching that on my hand left me saying OMG. I really must wear this more! And lastly, Mary Lou-Manizer by The Balm, this is a really intense gold shade.

The one brow product I have picked out to use more of is from Becca Cosmetics, this was also in a Cohorted Box, however this one is a little to dark for so I tend not to reach for it. Although if I can spend a bit of time on my brows I can get this to work for me and when it is applied precisely it does look really good as the pigment and consistency makes it really easy to apply.

Another foundation which has been neglected is by The Ordinary, I bought this on a whim and I have to say I am not overly impressed with it. I find it rather drying, so Pixi Glow Booster comes into play here aswell!

And finally in drawer number 2 is Rimmel Lasting Finish Concealer, this has taken a bit of a back seat because I have been less worried about covering up spots and embracing my skin more. This however, is one of the best concealers I have tried, so I would definitely reccomend it!

Drawer 3

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit palette has been with me now for 2 years and it’s safe to say I do not use it enough, in my opinion this is more a special occassion palette (and well, there are not enough special occasions to wear it), so I am going to try reaching for this more often on a daily basis.

Another product for glowy skin is the Make Up Revolution Liquid Highlighter in the shade Luminous Gold, this is exactly what it says, liquid gold. This creates a really intense gold glow, although I do find you have to work fast blending it as it dries pretty quickly.

Finally, the Urban Decay Naked Flushed is fairly new to my collection so I need to remember that I actually own it now and use it!

So, there you have it, my poor neglected make up items which will hopefully be seeing some action in the coming weeks!

What make up have you just realised you’ve forgotten about?

My Top 10 Makeup Picks for 2017

Beauty

Happy New Year!

I can’t believe we’ve already had one week of 2018, I am really looking forward to this next year and seeing what it brings, but for now I thought I would share my top ten makeup products for last year…

One favourite for me which I have repurchased over and over again is The Ordinary Silicone Primer, this is one of the best primers I have used and one of the cheapest. It is less that £5 which is a bargain considering I compare it to Benefit Porefessional, it feels exactly the same on the skin and lasts just as long!

A very new favourite in my collection, just over a week is the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette, I had been lusting over this palette since it was released and used all my will power to not buy it! I received it as a present and have used it every day since! The shades are just so beautiful and perfect!

Another eye shadow palette which is on the less expensive side is the Burning Embers Palette by MUA Cosmetics. This contains a huge collection of beautiful shades which are very similar to the Naked Heat Palette. I used this non stop in the summer and pretty much all year!

My statement lip colour for the year has to be MAC Fashion Legacy, this is the most lovely red liquid lipstick. I tend to wear this whenever I need my lipstick to last a long time, either when out for food or on a day trip. This formula isn’t too drying on your lips and it is easy to keep it looking fresh.

A fairly new mascara discovery, is the Bourjois Push Up Volume Glamour Mascara. This mascara is AMAZING, I thought I had found my favourite mascara by L’Oréal but this one takes first place. It is so easy to build up loads of volume and length creating really intense dark lashes!

My top foundation is MAC Studio Fix, this foundation has been my go to for long lasting coverage which doesn’t go cakey or disintegrate on your face throughout the day. This foundation combined with The Ordinary Primer is wonderful!

A foundation that comes in second place is Radiance Reveal by Bourjois, this has become my everyday work foundation as it is pretty much identical to the Studio Sculpt, but half the price. It lasts just as long and makes your complexion look really healthy and gives you coverage.

A blusher which has blown me away the past year was Galifornia by Benefit, this blush is a gorgeous coral shade, but it also smells amazing! Sometimes I just open up the box and sniff it because it really does smell that good!

Another cheek product I have been loving is the Contour Stick by Tanya Burr Cosmetics, I chose the shade dark and it gives a really intense shade to your face but it is really easy to blend out to look natural.

And my final favourite product of the year is Glossier Boy Brow, this has been a go to brow staple since they released in the UK. It is such an easy product to use on your brows and it is really easy to build up on its own or set a powder/pomade.

What are your top make up items for last year?

Everyday Makeup Routine

Beauty

As a dedicated makeup hoarder and lover I had to include my current make up look which I have been wearing near enough everyday for work. I will be doing a more festive version soon with red lips and a lot more shimmer so stay tuned for one…

To begin with I primer my face using the Silicone Primer by The Ordinary, this is my second tube of this and has become my favourite primer without a doubt! Whilst my primer is sinking in I like to do my mascara, the mascara I have been loving is the Push Up by Bourjois which was sent to my to try out by Influenster. This mascara is so good at building up volume and creating full dark lashes which really make a statement.

Next up is foundation, of course I have been using Mac Studio Fix as I know this one lasts all day. Once that is all blended in using an oval brush from My Makeup Brush Set (which was very kindly sent to me to try out) I apply a small amount of Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer under my eyes using the concealer brush from My Make Up Brush Collection.

I then apply some of the Tanya Burr Cosmetics contour stick in the shade dark on my cheeks and on my forehead.

To set my concealer and foundation I used Rimmel Stay matte which keeps my makeup in place all day and doesn’t look greasy or shiny.

I have then been loving using the Steven Klein palette by Nars, I use a mixture of Laguna and Paloma bronzers to create a really nice shade to add definition and shade to my cheeks and forehead.

I then use the blush shade Dolce Vita from the same palette. As for my highlight I have been obsessed with Glossier Haloscope in the shade Quartz, I apply this on my cheek bones, Cupid’s box and the arch of my eye brows. This creates such a gorgeous natural glow which lasts all day and really makes my make up pop!

Finally to finish up, eye brows. I have been using the Tanya Burr Cosmetics Selfie Sculpt brow pencil to create definition followed by Glossier Boy Brow to set them in place.

Do you use any of these products daily? What are your favourites?

15 things to do this December

Beauty

Today’s blogpost is all about giving you some ideas of what to do this month and a list for me to try and tick of as and when I do them. I’m hoping I can do all of these things this month and hope you can too!

  1. Go to a Christmas Tree Farm and pick your tree I did this last year and it wasn’t exactly what I expected, I thought it would be like in the movies, where you pick your tree and chop it. But I still managed to find a cute little patch of untouched Christmas trees to get some photos with.
  2. Decorate your tree This obviously goes without saying!
  3. Attend a Christmas party (or two) I have two Christmas parties to go to this year which I am super excited about!
  4. Rock a red lip If your anything like me then you’ll be in a red lip near enough anytime you leave the house, there is no other time of year when a red lip is acceptable for even a trip to Asda!
  5. Eat your weight in Camembert I think I discovered this amazing cheese last year and I got a little obsessed with it. I love dipping in French Stick and peppers!
  6. Drink your weight in hot chocolate covered in marshmallows and whipped cream Another obvious one, there are so many different flavours of hot chocolate out there now, you could even try a new one daily!
  7. Take a walk Blow the cobwebs away, this one is a great one to do inbetween Christmas and New Year to get you out of the house and walking off your Christmas dinner.
  8. Go to a Christmas market This is the one I am most likely to not be able to tick off as there is no local market near to me. But Christmas markets are super fun, even if you don’t buy anything they are still super festive and cute!
  9. Spend a day watching Christmas movies Have a day where you do nothing but watch movies and ofcourse eat Christmasy treats! The Christmas channel is my go to for the whole of December as there is always a sweet festive movie on.
  10. Make cookies There is nothing more cosy than baking in your kitchen and the smell radiating throughout the house of freshly baked cookies.
  11. Plan a Christmas party This year I took it upon myself to plan a Christmas meal for my department at work, it’s been so much fun planning and organising.
  12. Create a Christmas Eve snuggle box This is pretty much a box full of essentials for the night, from cosy pjs and socks to candles and face masks!
  13. Spend a Sunday morning in bed with a Ginger Bread Latte reading a book Ginger Bread Lattes are my obsession from November onwards so drinking one of them in bed reading Tanya’s Christmas is a great way of getting in the spirit.
  14. Wrap your presents with Christmas music on as loud as it can go This goes without saying, surely?
  15. Head to Starbucks (or Costa) for a festive drink I am a little obsessed with gingerbread lattes and pumpkin spice so any chance I have I will be drinking one.

Back to Mac | What I’m taking back to Mac

Beauty

If your a lipstick junkie/hoarder then you know how bad it gets when you have hundreds of lipsticks but you realistically only reach for the same couple.

Mac have a great program called ‘back to Mac’ where you can return any 6 products/packaging and get a free lipstick of your choice!

My closest Mac store is in my airport, and I have contacted Mac and they have said that I can exchang my products there for a lipstick, so hopefully on Sunday when I am there it will happen!

I have 5 lipsticks and 1 liquid lipstick which I am exchanging, and these are all for different reasons.

On the left is Impassioned, this was actually the first ever Mac lipstick I ever bought! I even remember the day, I was in Manchester with my friends. This lipstick is a really nice shade, and I obviously thought I would get a lot of wear out of it it in the summer, but I havnt. It’s also a pretty battered lipstick, the lipstick itself grinds against the packaging and doesn’t look nice.

In the middle is another broken lipstick, I have no idea how this one got like this but it did and it’s a real shame because it’s one of my favourite nudes. It is in the shade Twig.

And on the right is Saint Germain, I bought this because I thought it would be great in the summer with a tan. But I actually don’t like it, in the packaging it looks a lovely shade but it doesn’t suit me.

On the left is the liquid in the shade High Drama, I bought this last year and literally have not used it and when I have tried to it just looks awful! It’s so patchy and hard to apply and keep on and is just not worth the effort!

In the middle is Snob, this is most probally the one I would most like to keep out of all them but I needed to make up 6 so it didn’t make the cut of staying. But for me, it’s just a little to pink and I like either red or nude.

And lastly is Heroine, this was a great idea when I bought it and it was a long time ago when I would actually wear something like this, but now, it’s not for me!

What’s in my make up bag | week 1

Beauty

Starting this week I have decided to do a blogpost dedicated to my make up that I’ve worn the week before hand and share my thoughts on the products.

Base

My go to primer for many weeks has been from The Ordinary. I love The Ordinary products so I was intrigued to see how this Primer works compared to my other go to’s. As you can see I am nearly at the end of this tube, but have no fear, I have two more back ups! I love the way this Primer feels, it really reminds me of the Benefit Porefessional but way cheaper!

I have not switched up my foundation in ages, and to be honest I don’t really want to! I’ve found a good primer and foundation and they work well for me, so why change? I use the shade NC15 in Mac Studio Fix Fluid during the winter months when I’m not tanned and it’s the perfect match!

As for under eye concealer my go to the past week has been Rimmel Wake Me Up. This is really hydrating and brightening and I need waking up as we still have another week to go until October half term!

Cream Contour has been my go to favourite thing to do, I just love adding extra colour and shoe back into my face. My go to the past week has been from Seventeen, you can see it’s well loved (I have a back up, don’t worry!).

Powders

I always set my face using Rimmel Stay Matte but I never include that in my routines as it’s not very interesting. For my bronzer and blush I have been using the Steven Klein Palette from Nars. The bronzer is in the shade Laguna and the blush is in the shade Dolce Vita. These are really warm shades and perfect for fall. And for highlight I’ve been using Champagne Sorbet by Tanya Burr Cosmetics as it gives a really natural golden glow.

Eyes & Brows

For mascara I have been using the one and only Loreal Paradise Exatic Mascara which is the best mascara I own! It is so easy to use and build up volume and length without going clumpy!

And finally for my brows I really love using powders as I find them much easier to work with and they create a more natural look. My chosen one for last week was from the ELF Brow kit in the shade medium. I then set my brows with Loreal Brow Plumper, I’ve used a few brows over the past few weeks but this is the only one which actually keeps my brows groomed!

Come back next week for the second part of what’s I my make up bag!

Autumnal eye shadow picks

Beauty

Today is all the perfect autumnal eye shadows, a couple of these were new purchases this autumn but the majority are old ones. So here are my go to shades/palettes for the autumn months.

First up I have chosen four individual eye shadows, the two smaller ones are from Colourpop. These are in the shades LALA and Game Face, these two of my favourite all time shadows and tend to be my go to for traveling as their really small and easy to pack.

The next two are from MUA Cosmetics in the shades Copper and Bronze, these are the cheapest eye shadows I own but they are still really good quality so you can even tell!

The MUA Cosmetics Rusted Wonders palette is the perfect shimmer palette for autumn. The red has been my most worn shade so far, but these are all so pigmented and really easy to blend! Considering this was £3.50 I don’t think you can go wrong with it!

The beautiful MAC Burgundy X 9 palette which is a couple of years old now, I havnt really got much wear out of this as it is very seasonal. That being said I will put it in my make up bag so I can remind myself to use it more!

The top two are the Colourpop shadows (top Game Face bottom LALA). These two are my most worn pretty much all year but they are perfect for autumn, they are really long wearing I find it’s best to apply them with my finger so I get the most out the colour.

The bottom two are by MUA Cosmetics (top bronze bottom copper). Out of these two I think I will be wearing Copper the most as it is as really rich warm coppery shade and incredibly pigmented considering how cheap these were!

The top four are from the MAC palette and the bottom four are from the MUA Cosmetics palette. Considering the huge difference in price I would say the quality of the shadows is near enough the same, although I think I will get more wear out of the MUA palette as they are perfect lid shades!

What are your favourite shadows for autumn?

What’s in my travel make up bag | 1 night in Geneva

Beauty

In October half term I am heading to Geneva for 1 night to see the sites and explore, so I thought I would share with you what I’m planning on packing in my make up bag.

For my base I am taking Benefit Porefessional Primer as I know this works amazingly well with the Mac Studio Fix foundation. These two together are really long lasting and still look exactly the same at the end of the day. Concealer wise I am taking the Bourjois Radiance Reveal because this gives great coverage and is also really brightening. Then too add some definition to my face I will be using the Tanya Burr Cosmetics Contour Stick in the shade dark as this gives a really natural contoured look.

To bronze my face I will be using Hoola by Benefit follows by a Nip + Fab blush and the shade Champagne Sorbet from Tanya Burr Cosmetics to highlight.

My absolute go to mascara at the minute is Loreal Paradise Exactic, it’s so quick and easy to use and build up volume and length that it makes it perfect to use when your short on time. For my eye shadow I wanted to create a really autumnal look so I’ve picked out an eye shadow from MUA Cosmetics in the shade Copper, this is a really pigmented copper shade and I will be using this over my lid. In my crease I will using the shade Soft Truffle from Tanya Burr Cosmetics palette Birthday Suit to build up the intensity.

And finally for my brows I have chosen the brow kit from ElF, I have really been loving using powders so this one is perfect. And then to set my brows I will be using Loreal Brow Sculpt.

And ofcourse no makeup bag is complete without lipstick, or many lipsticks! I may only be going away 2 days but I do like to have options! To keep my lips soft and hydrated I’m taking the Tanya Burr Cosmetics lip balm in Blackberry Coulis. As this has a tint aswell it’s really easy to just add on the go and not worry about the application. I then have packed two Mac lipsticks, the first shade is Amourous and the second is Russian Red. And the beautiful deep berry lipstick from Nars is in the shade Charlotte, this is the lipstick I plan on wearing the most! And then when I don’t want a dark or bright lip I have packed Tanya Burr Cosmetics Martha Moo liquid lipstick which is a nudey pink shade and is really long lansting.
