Winter Beauty Holiday Staples

Beauty

Everyone (including myself) always gets so carried away with holiday staples for the summer, but as I am heading to Bruges next weekend I thought I would share some of my beauty staples I will be taking with me to keep my skin in good condition.

Lip Balm

Lip balm is a necessity no matter what the weather, and my go to is Glossier Balm Dot Com, I find this so thick and hydrating and it either apply it before lipstick so it hydrates my lips or add it after lipstick to create a more glossier effect.

Red Lip

A red lip is an essential, for this 2 day trip I have packed 3 different shade of red lipstick which may seem a little overboard, but i just love a red lip and want to have options. I just love how a red lip can instantly revive a makeup look and you can go from looking tired and ready for bed to ready for dinner and cocktails.

Hydrating Moisturiser

When travelling it is so important to have a realy good hydrating moisturiser to apply before bed to keep your skin in tip top condition. My absolute favourite for travelling is Glossier Moon Mask, I like to apply this as my evening moisturiser instead of a mask.

An SPF

Even though its winter it is still highly important to apply an SPF to your face as the sun can still do damage. A lot of the time I incorporate this into my routine by using a Primer or Foundation with SPF in. The primer I use is by Dermalogica SPF 30 and the Foundation is Mac Studio Fix SPF 15.

My top 5 Ordinary products

Beauty

For well over as year now I have been using a lot of The Ordinary in my skincare routine, I love how inexpensive these products are yet they contain loads of really great ingredients which are great for looking after your skin. I have tried quite the selection from them, but I have narrowed it all down to my top 5.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyalurnonic acid is a humectant, this means that it keeps the skin looking plump and hydrated which helps slow down the anti-aging process. I don’t use this every night, just when my skin feels like it needs an extra boost. The fact that this is a pretty effective product but only costs £6 means it should be a staple in everyone’s routine!

Argireline Solution

This solution claims to improve the appearance of fine lines and I’m pretty sure it does, although this solution is one that I do tend to forget about as I tend to use stronger serums, but when I do use this regularly I can notice a difference on my forehead lines, they become less obvious with regular use and I feel so much better about my skin. From what I have read online, argireline works but limiting the muscle movements (like Botox) to restrict facial expressions which cause wrinkles.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha Lipoic Acid is a ‘high potent antioxidant’, it works like a chemical peel, removing dead skin cells and repairing skin damage by restoring vitamin e and c. It also works well as an anti-imflamatory reducing redness and in turn creating an even skin tone. I use this once or twice a week, especially when I have been having a bad skin day. This has got to be one of my favourite items, when I apply this my skin has a slight burning sensation, which should not be a good sign, but I feel like it is working and doing its job!

Lactic Acid

Lactic Acid is a mild exfoliatant which helps reduce acne breakouts and reduce the signs of ageing. Lactic Acid works to exfoliate your skin and remove the build up of dead skin cells, The Ordinary website says you can use this daily, I personally wouldn’t as I think it can be quite harsh on your skin and I’m worried about my skin reacting badly to it. I use this up to two times a week making sure I’ve left a day in-between this and the Alpha Lipoic Acid.

High-Adherence Silicone Primer

This primer is my absolute go to, this is currently my third tube of this because I use it every time I do my make up, in my eyes this is just as good at Benefit Porefessional primer. It applies so nicely to my skin, leaves it feeling really soft and even and foundation just glides on! For less that £4 it really is a steel!

The worst part about The Ordinary is that the products are so hard to get a hold off, I like to buy them all in one place but most the time half of what I need is out of stock so it has been a long time since I have placed an order. My biggest tip would be to buy in bulk if you find something which you love, that way you will always have back ups!

What products have you tried from The Ordinary?

My All Time Favourite Foundations

Beauty

Finding a foundation which works well for your skin, lasts a long time and doesn’t cost a bomb can take time and a lot of effort experimenting with different brands in order to find your one true love. After many years of buying a multitude on foundations and testing them out I can finally say I have found my two favourites…

MAC Studio Fix

MAC Studio Fix Foundation  has been in my collection for just over a year now, I have no idea what I did before it because this has been a game changer. I always used to think that the likes of Loreal and Rimmel were just as good so I was reluctant to pay nearly £25 for a bottle of foundation which wouldn’t last that long. I eventually caved and bought my first bottle as a treat to myself, and love and behold I fell in love with it!

It blends really well into your skin, it gives great coverage, it doesn’t look cakey and it last for pretty long time! What else could you want from a foundation? I am now on my second bottle (the first bottle I bought was more of a summer skin shade so I went a shade lighter for the winter months). This foundation is my special occasion foundation, whenever I’m going out and need my base to look good and last for a long time.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation is my dupe for Mac Studio Fix, it works in exactly the same way, but is less than half the price! I was lucky enough to receive this from Influenster to try out, this foundation necessarily wouldn’t have been one I would have picked up myself but I am so glad I got to try it out! I find this one more hydrating on my skin and gives a much fresher glowy base. Coverage wise I would say they are both fairly similar along with the longevity of the formula.

This is my every day foundation, of course I was reluctant to test it out for a whole day at work, but it worked great for my skin!

Even though I have found the two foundations that work for me, I still have quite a few in my collection which I can’t seem to throw away (just yet). I think it is still good to experiment with different foundations on days where you can deal with a make up disaster as your skin might have changed and a little switch up could be good for it.

What are you go to foundations?

Everyday Makeup Routine

Beauty

As a dedicated makeup hoarder and lover I had to include my current make up look which I have been wearing near enough everyday for work. I will be doing a more festive version soon with red lips and a lot more shimmer so stay tuned for one…

To begin with I primer my face using the Silicone Primer by The Ordinary, this is my second tube of this and has become my favourite primer without a doubt! Whilst my primer is sinking in I like to do my mascara, the mascara I have been loving is the Push Up by Bourjois which was sent to my to try out by Influenster. This mascara is so good at building up volume and creating full dark lashes which really make a statement.

Next up is foundation, of course I have been using Mac Studio Fix as I know this one lasts all day. Once that is all blended in using an oval brush from My Makeup Brush Set (which was very kindly sent to me to try out) I apply a small amount of Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer under my eyes using the concealer brush from My Make Up Brush Collection.

I then apply some of the Tanya Burr Cosmetics contour stick in the shade dark on my cheeks and on my forehead.

To set my concealer and foundation I used Rimmel Stay matte which keeps my makeup in place all day and doesn’t look greasy or shiny.

I have then been loving using the Steven Klein palette by Nars, I use a mixture of Laguna and Paloma bronzers to create a really nice shade to add definition and shade to my cheeks and forehead.

I then use the blush shade Dolce Vita from the same palette. As for my highlight I have been obsessed with Glossier Haloscope in the shade Quartz, I apply this on my cheek bones, Cupid’s box and the arch of my eye brows. This creates such a gorgeous natural glow which lasts all day and really makes my make up pop!

Finally to finish up, eye brows. I have been using the Tanya Burr Cosmetics Selfie Sculpt brow pencil to create definition followed by Glossier Boy Brow to set them in place.

Do you use any of these products daily? What are your favourites?

15 things to do this December

Beauty

Today’s blogpost is all about giving you some ideas of what to do this month and a list for me to try and tick of as and when I do them. I’m hoping I can do all of these things this month and hope you can too!

  1. Go to a Christmas Tree Farm and pick your tree I did this last year and it wasn’t exactly what I expected, I thought it would be like in the movies, where you pick your tree and chop it. But I still managed to find a cute little patch of untouched Christmas trees to get some photos with.
  2. Decorate your tree This obviously goes without saying!
  3. Attend a Christmas party (or two) I have two Christmas parties to go to this year which I am super excited about!
  4. Rock a red lip If your anything like me then you’ll be in a red lip near enough anytime you leave the house, there is no other time of year when a red lip is acceptable for even a trip to Asda!
  5. Eat your weight in Camembert I think I discovered this amazing cheese last year and I got a little obsessed with it. I love dipping in French Stick and peppers!
  6. Drink your weight in hot chocolate covered in marshmallows and whipped cream Another obvious one, there are so many different flavours of hot chocolate out there now, you could even try a new one daily!
  7. Take a walk Blow the cobwebs away, this one is a great one to do inbetween Christmas and New Year to get you out of the house and walking off your Christmas dinner.
  8. Go to a Christmas market This is the one I am most likely to not be able to tick off as there is no local market near to me. But Christmas markets are super fun, even if you don’t buy anything they are still super festive and cute!
  9. Spend a day watching Christmas movies Have a day where you do nothing but watch movies and ofcourse eat Christmasy treats! The Christmas channel is my go to for the whole of December as there is always a sweet festive movie on.
  10. Make cookies There is nothing more cosy than baking in your kitchen and the smell radiating throughout the house of freshly baked cookies.
  11. Plan a Christmas party This year I took it upon myself to plan a Christmas meal for my department at work, it’s been so much fun planning and organising.
  12. Create a Christmas Eve snuggle box This is pretty much a box full of essentials for the night, from cosy pjs and socks to candles and face masks!
  13. Spend a Sunday morning in bed with a Ginger Bread Latte reading a book Ginger Bread Lattes are my obsession from November onwards so drinking one of them in bed reading Tanya’s Christmas is a great way of getting in the spirit.
  14. Wrap your presents with Christmas music on as loud as it can go This goes without saying, surely?
  15. Head to Starbucks (or Costa) for a festive drink I am a little obsessed with gingerbread lattes and pumpkin spice so any chance I have I will be drinking one.

What’s in your list of things to do this festive season? Let me know in the comments and be sure to follow me on Instagram so you don’t miss out @toriiitoriii

Get glowing this winter

Beauty

Happy blogmas day 3! Today I am sharing with you my favourite make up items which help me glow throughout winter and the party season.

Glossier Haloscope

This is the newest highlight to my collection but it has quickly become my most worn, I have already written about this product in my November Favourites which went up on the 1st December so I wont waffle on too much. Basically, this is the most natural highlight, it looks like your skin is glowing from within, its not like a normal highlighter where you can see shimmer and glitter, this highlighter looks natural.

Fig & Rouge Illuminating Primer

This primer arrived in the Cohorted box for November which was very kindly sent to me, I had never heard of this brand before but was pleasantly surprised! The primer is literally gold and looks like it could be a highlighter on its own, it blends into the skin really nice and when foundation is applied on top it gives a really natural glow from within look.

Make Up Revolution Liquid Highlighter

This a more prominant in your face highlighter and is the complete opposite to the Glossier one. Literally swatching that on my hand just now made me feel like a glitter ball, this is definitelyone for christmas parties where you want to shimmer and glow.

Colour Pop Wisp and Over The Moon

Colour Pop is pretty well known for its amazing highlighters so i narrowed them down to two which I think will look great over the festive period. First up is the shade Wisp, this is a really gorgeous darker champagne colour, this is a pretty bold highlighter which i generally wouldnt wear unless I had a tan, but for a party it will be perfect. The second one is Over The Moon, this is the most out there highlighter I own, it is as if a unicorn has just licked your face and left behind glittery goodness. Once again, perfect for parties and making a statement.

Festive Lip Picks

Beauty

December is the month where a red lip is acceptable pretty much everyday and for every occasion. I have picked my top 5 (and most worn) red lip shades from my collection. I will ofcourse be living in a re flip throughout the whole month, make sure you check out my Instagram to see the ‘red lip of the day’.

November Favourites

Beauty

Happy DECEMBER!

Blogmas day 1 is here! I am going to publishing a blogpost daily between now and the big day, today’s blogpost is about everything I have been loving in November…

Essence Candle

First up is this huge candle by Essence, picked this up from B&M Bargains for only £3.99 which is super cheap for a candle that big, it really reminds me of the Bath and Body Works ones, which I can’t get a hold off! It actually smells really strong which you wouldn’t expect for a candle that cheap, it makes my room smell so autumnal!

What’s In It For Me?

This scrub has to make it into my favourites purely because of the smell, if you read my blogpost last month about it then you’ll will already know how much I love this!

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

At first I was a little unsure about this Cleanser, but my skin has been so good recently and I think it could be down to this Cleanser! It just feels so refreshing and gentle on my skin yet it can remove all my make up! I like to do a double cleanse with it just to make sure all my make up is off. I will definitely be repurchasing another bottle of this!

Tanya Burr Cosmetics Nail Polish glitters & gold

This is such a beautiful golden glitter perfect for the festive season, I have been wearing it none stop over the past month on top of burgundy, nude and multiple other colours.

Bourjois Push Up Mascara

I have only just received this mascara in my Bourjois Influenster Box but I have been wearing it constantly! It makes my lashes so dark and Voluminous and makes my lash line really defined!

Glossier Haloscope in Quartz

This was another Glossier item I was a little unsure off when it first arrived but OMG I cannot go a day without it! I apply this on top of all my other make up and it literally makes up face so glowy! I am obsessed!

Glossier Boy Brow

This has been non stop on my eye brows, I initially tried it on its own and it looks great and really makes your brows look full but natural. But I also like applying it to set my brow pencil.

My Makeup Brush Set

I was lucky enough to be sent a whole set of oval make up brushes to test out. So far I have only used the foundation and concealer brush as I was a little unsure about using the others with powder products. The foundation brush is really soft and does a great job at apply foundation without making it look cakey.

Co Lab Dry Shampoo

I’m back to to my old favourite, Co Lab dry shampoo in the scent Tropical. I love these dry shampoos as they don’t leave white marks in your hair, I always used to forget that I had sprayed them in and walk out with grey hair, but that doesn’t happen with these ones!

Did you see any of your favourites here?

Back to Mac | What I’m taking back to Mac

Beauty

If your a lipstick junkie/hoarder then you know how bad it gets when you have hundreds of lipsticks but you realistically only reach for the same couple.

Mac have a great program called ‘back to Mac’ where you can return any 6 products/packaging and get a free lipstick of your choice!

My closest Mac store is in my airport, and I have contacted Mac and they have said that I can exchang my products there for a lipstick, so hopefully on Sunday when I am there it will happen!

I have 5 lipsticks and 1 liquid lipstick which I am exchanging, and these are all for different reasons.

On the left is Impassioned, this was actually the first ever Mac lipstick I ever bought! I even remember the day, I was in Manchester with my friends. This lipstick is a really nice shade, and I obviously thought I would get a lot of wear out of it it in the summer, but I havnt. It’s also a pretty battered lipstick, the lipstick itself grinds against the packaging and doesn’t look nice.

In the middle is another broken lipstick, I have no idea how this one got like this but it did and it’s a real shame because it’s one of my favourite nudes. It is in the shade Twig.

And on the right is Saint Germain, I bought this because I thought it would be great in the summer with a tan. But I actually don’t like it, in the packaging it looks a lovely shade but it doesn’t suit me.

On the left is the liquid in the shade High Drama, I bought this last year and literally have not used it and when I have tried to it just looks awful! It’s so patchy and hard to apply and keep on and is just not worth the effort!

In the middle is Snob, this is most probally the one I would most like to keep out of all them but I needed to make up 6 so it didn’t make the cut of staying. But for me, it’s just a little to pink and I like either red or nude.

And lastly is Heroine, this was a great idea when I bought it and it was a long time ago when I would actually wear something like this, but now, it’s not for me!

What’s in my make up bag | week 1

Beauty

Starting this week I have decided to do a blogpost dedicated to my make up that I’ve worn the week before hand and share my thoughts on the products.

Base

My go to primer for many weeks has been from The Ordinary. I love The Ordinary products so I was intrigued to see how this Primer works compared to my other go to’s. As you can see I am nearly at the end of this tube, but have no fear, I have two more back ups! I love the way this Primer feels, it really reminds me of the Benefit Porefessional but way cheaper!

I have not switched up my foundation in ages, and to be honest I don’t really want to! I’ve found a good primer and foundation and they work well for me, so why change? I use the shade NC15 in Mac Studio Fix Fluid during the winter months when I’m not tanned and it’s the perfect match!

As for under eye concealer my go to the past week has been Rimmel Wake Me Up. This is really hydrating and brightening and I need waking up as we still have another week to go until October half term!

Cream Contour has been my go to favourite thing to do, I just love adding extra colour and shoe back into my face. My go to the past week has been from Seventeen, you can see it’s well loved (I have a back up, don’t worry!).

Powders

I always set my face using Rimmel Stay Matte but I never include that in my routines as it’s not very interesting. For my bronzer and blush I have been using the Steven Klein Palette from Nars. The bronzer is in the shade Laguna and the blush is in the shade Dolce Vita. These are really warm shades and perfect for fall. And for highlight I’ve been using Champagne Sorbet by Tanya Burr Cosmetics as it gives a really natural golden glow.

Eyes & Brows

For mascara I have been using the one and only Loreal Paradise Exatic Mascara which is the best mascara I own! It is so easy to use and build up volume and length without going clumpy!

And finally for my brows I really love using powders as I find them much easier to work with and they create a more natural look. My chosen one for last week was from the ELF Brow kit in the shade medium. I then set my brows with Loreal Brow Plumper, I’ve used a few brows over the past few weeks but this is the only one which actually keeps my brows groomed!

Come back next week for the second part of what’s I my make up bag!

How I look after my skin on holiday | 1 night away with hand luggage only

Beauty

Good morning!

Today’s blogpost is going to be all about how I still look after my skin on holiday and still use 90% of the same products abroad as I would t home. This post is specifically for 1 night away with hand luggage on a flight, so as your aware everything has to fit into one of those small clear plastic bags. I am huge skincare addict so it’s very important to me that I still take care of my skin on holiday!

To begin with I like to make sure I’ve packed something which is going to be able to remove all my make up so my skin is 100% clean before doing anything else. I’ve heard great things about the Eve Lom cleanser so I’ve packed that to remove everything. Next I have an old Sephora face wash tube, this is refillable, at the moment it contains a small amount of the Loreal Clay Detox wash which was left over from my last trip. After washing I like to go in with a scrub to really freshen my skin up and give it a boost. I have chosen the Lancer Face Polish as it is a really good size and the product seems to be really good aswell. This one came in my #lfbeautybox this month. And finally for the cleansing part is a face mask from The Body Shop. This is the rose plumping mask so I thought this would be ideal for tired skin, as I normally end up waking up ridiculously early and not going to bed till really late on holiday I figured it would be perfect.

Next we’re on to toners, now ofcourse I can take the big bottles I use at home, so I transfer enough for one night into a little bottle. I picked these little bottles up which I was stuck in Tenerife in the summer and they are the perfect size for liquids! I have chosen to take the Tea Tree Toner from The Body Shop just incase I have any breakouts and the Glycolic Acid Toner from The Ordinary as I use this every night anyway so I don’t want to detour away from it.

Ofcourse it’s not a real good skincare routine unless I’m suing multiple masks. So I have decided to pack one of the new Soap and Glory sheet masks, this one is to add moisture back in your skin which is perfect after a flight as your skin gets really dehydrated. And to finish of the masks I have packed the Sunflower Under Eye Patches to just add a bit more hydration there.

And now onto the final leg of the skincare, I like to use an oil almost every night so I have packed a firming face oil from Monu Skin which also came in the #lfbeautybox this month followed my an eye cream from Superdrug. And to finish up moisturiser, to save even more space on one night trips I like to use sample sized moisturisers. I have packed theee just incase one isn’t enough, but I will be using the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Night Cream initially and then I will decide if I need more moisture. The samples are the perfect size for sliding in between everything else and take up barely any room!

What are your staples in your skincare routine when your on holiday? Let me know in the comments.

Autumnal eye shadow picks

Beauty

Today is all the perfect autumnal eye shadows, a couple of these were new purchases this autumn but the majority are old ones. So here are my go to shades/palettes for the autumn months.

First up I have chosen four individual eye shadows, the two smaller ones are from Colourpop. These are in the shades LALA and Game Face, these two of my favourite all time shadows and tend to be my go to for traveling as their really small and easy to pack.

The next two are from MUA Cosmetics in the shades Copper and Bronze, these are the cheapest eye shadows I own but they are still really good quality so you can even tell!

The MUA Cosmetics Rusted Wonders palette is the perfect shimmer palette for autumn. The red has been my most worn shade so far, but these are all so pigmented and really easy to blend! Considering this was £3.50 I don’t think you can go wrong with it!

The beautiful MAC Burgundy X 9 palette which is a couple of years old now, I havnt really got much wear out of this as it is very seasonal. That being said I will put it in my make up bag so I can remind myself to use it more!

The top two are the Colourpop shadows (top Game Face bottom LALA). These two are my most worn pretty much all year but they are perfect for autumn, they are really long wearing I find it’s best to apply them with my finger so I get the most out the colour.

The bottom two are by MUA Cosmetics (top bronze bottom copper). Out of these two I think I will be wearing Copper the most as it is as really rich warm coppery shade and incredibly pigmented considering how cheap these were!

The top four are from the MAC palette and the bottom four are from the MUA Cosmetics palette. Considering the huge difference in price I would say the quality of the shadows is near enough the same, although I think I will get more wear out of the MUA palette as they are perfect lid shades!

What are your favourite shadows for autumn?
